37 Dean Street, London
Located within the Soho Conservation Area in Central London, No. 37 Dean Street looks to upgrade an existing office building through creative re-design and extension. The proposal looks to upgrade an existing layout, optimising the access to daylight while designing around the surrounding right-to-light parameters in a densely built-up part of Soho.
The design adds character to the existing contextual brickwork through the application of a dark painted finish, reminiscent of the soot marked appearance of the older brick buildings in the area. Steel-framed crittall windows and railings have been introduced, which would be more appropriate to the character of the area than those that are currently in place. The roof top extension differentiate itself from the existing surrounds while also adding an air of lightness and privacy to the extension, with planting and screens.
