Mount Pleasant, Dublin
Recently completed on Mount Pleasant Square in Dublin, this project is a renovated double fronted period home dating from the early 1800’s. With more home owners looking at contemporary ways of adapting older properties, this conversion demonstrates a well-designed merriment of concrete and brick materiality.
The development consists of an extended replacement single storey extension over basement, with a new courtyard, inaccessible green roof and roof lights to the rear of the existing dwelling. The refurbished building is laid out over three levels and offers well-appointed accommodation throughout, enhanced by statement interior furnishings and original period detail. The client’s ambition was to celebrate the existing beautiful features of the period home, while allowing the raw concrete materially to breathe new life into the home.
Double height ceilings and skylights have been utilised throughout, our architectural principles prioritising open light-filled rooms as well as exciting new spaces and passageways. The design framed views and experiences, guiding the home owners experience with level changes and transition zones.
The main reception room at hall level enjoys a dual aspect with views to the front and over the rear garden, while the large kitchen and dining room opens into the rear garden through full height sliding doors. Internal courtyards and voids within the project channel light in curious and contemporary ways. Shadow and light cast has been shaped by modern architectural forms which gives each space a unique atmosphere.
